So what exactly does it mean to “find your inner calling”? As Rumi once said, “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.”
Finding your true calling essentially means to allow yourself to be pulled toward the strong inner impulse towards a particular course of action.
But not everyone can find their true calling so easily. While some lucky people may be born with a sense of what they truly want to do in their lives, others discover their true passion with time.
Figuring out what you were meant to do in this life is an evolving process, sometimes taking your whole life to figure out. But once you find out what your calling truly is, your life finally becomes meaningful and full of passion and more energy. There are many ways to get in touch with your inner self and figure out your true passion.
Tune Into your Gut
Noticing your dreams and figuring out what your subconscious–or “gut intuition”–is telling you. One must pay attention to the things that happen in your life, and which people and places you are drawn to. Many times dreams also symbolize what it is that you truly want in life.
Dig into your inner child
Think about the things you used to love or be drawn to during young age. What were the games that interested you and how did you think as a child? These tips help get in touch with your inner desires. Another important step in finding your true passion is removing distractions from your life. Whether it is TV, shopping, and drinking, you need to spend more time with yourself to try and figure out your path in life.
Get it out
Keeping a journal–or another creative outlet–can be another great way to figure out what you want in life. Always jot down your inner thoughts and desires and these clues will lead you to figuring out where your life is headed.
Talking to friends and family can also help you reflect and discover yourself. Ask them for ideas and opinions about what they feel you should be doing in your life. Keeping your core values in focus is another guide to figuring out how you can honor these values in your life. Our values can give us a great sense of what our true calling in life may be.
Remember Process + Patience
Another important thing to remember about discovering your passion is that this is an ongoing process. Usually, you do not just have an “aha!” moment where you realize what your true calling is. Instead, you must go out and try new things to discover what it is that you are good at and what it is that ignites your passions. You can never know what is out there for you unless you get up, get out and explore the vast variety of activities available for you.
Take care and MOVE
When you feel truly lost and stuck, it may mean you are struggling with fear and are no longer growing and pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Don’t fret.
Take some time for self care and truly take care of your own needs, physically, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Do something you’ve been wanting to do. Go see that movie. Get your nails done. Dance. Drink some water. Sing your favorite song at the top of your lungs. Go on a run. Get passionate with your lover. Get in some yoga. Use some essential oils (or better yet, your Aromatherapy Scarf to calm your nerves or invigorate you!) Cook. Clean. Play with your dog. Summary: Get moving!
Inspiration tends to hit us when we are in action and being active instead of over-thinking and stagnant.
Every day is sacred in this journey but once you figure out what it is that excites you and fulfills you, you will be on the path to inner happiness.
Doing what you are passionate about in life is what will give your life meaning and finally you will be able to contribute to society in a meaningful way and to your own inner peace.
“To experience peace does not mean that your life is always blissful. It means that you are capable of tapping into a blissful state of mind amidst the normal chaos of a hectic life.” – Jill Bolte Taylor
