Suicide Prevention Week: What Can We Actually Do For Prevention?

Suicide Prevention Week: What Can We Actually Do For Prevention?

As we enter National Suicide Prevention Week, we hope to draw attention to the topic. Project Semicolon makes an important clarification that “Suicide is a complex issue involving numerous factors and should not be attributed to any one single cause. Developing Shame Resilience: Part 3

Developing Shame Resilience: Part 3
When we don’t reach out to others, we allow them AND ourselves to sit alone in our shame, and by doing so we feed shame two of the ingredients it needs to survive: silence and secrecy. Using shame to fight shame doesn’t work. And using shame as a tool to try and change others doesn’t work, either. We can, however, all benefit from shared empathy. Empathy is what helps extinguish shame in its tracks.

Essential Oils – a Fad or For Real? (part 1)
It had long since come to my attention that people of accomplishment rarely sat back and let things happen to them. They went out and happened to things  -Leonardo Da Vinci Last time we learned a little bit about the use and benefits of essential oils, specifically aromatically. If you want a refresher on how […]

This past weekend was my first step in a 9 month stretchy, spiritual and transformative journey through Kansas City Yoga Teacher Training.    There are some truly amazing and inspirational women in my “Yoga Trainee Tribe” and I feel so blessed and honored to share this time and space with them.   But I have a […]

March 1st was (and is) Self Injury Awareness Day (SIAD) each and every year.     Overall, the month of March is self injury awareness month in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe.     The stigma of self-injury needs to be broken.   What is Self-Injury? “Self-injury, sometimes called self-harm, is any deliberate, […]

Depression – Let’s break this stigma down

Depression – Let’s break this stigma down
Winter time can be a debilitating time for many.   At least I know it can be, and is, for me and many of my clients.   The “Winter Blues”, otherwise known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), can include feelings of sadness, lack of energy, lack of motivation, difficulty sleeping, and a number of other depressive […]

New Years Thoughts + a plan for 2016
I used to be really into new years resolutions.   But, I’ve typically found that my “resolutions” convert into some form of a shame inducing, “should” list that turns into a chore.   1. Lose 10 pounds 2. Save $5,000 3. Eat healthier 4. Read more books 5. bla bla bla   No fun!   Want to try something different in […]

1.44 Billion.   No, that’s not the amount Star Wars raked in opening weekend, or the number of cheeseburgers served by McDonalds in a day.   That’s the number of Active Facebook users currently. Along with 300 Million Instagram users, and 284 Million Twitter users. (thanks, Google).   We’re engulfed with it.   At first, […]
