Developing Shame Resilience: Part 3

Developing Shame Resilience: Part 3
When we don’t reach out to others, we allow them AND ourselves to sit alone in our shame, and by doing so we feed shame two of the ingredients it needs to survive: silence and secrecy. Using shame to fight shame doesn’t work. And using shame as a tool to try and change others doesn’t work, either. We can, however, all benefit from shared empathy. Empathy is what helps extinguish shame in its tracks.

Essential Oils – a Fad or For Real? (part 2)
“She could never go back and make some of the details pretty. All she could do was move forward and make the whole beautiful.” -Terri St. Cloud Last week, we talked about how you get a big voice in how you want to determine your destiny. We also talked about the role that essential oils can play […]

5 Simple Ways to Help You Find Your Inner Calling
So what exactly does it mean to “find your inner calling”?   As Rumi once said, “Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love.”   Finding your true calling essentially means to allow yourself to be pulled toward the strong inner impulse towards a particular course of action.   […]

Fears, And My First Weekend Of Yoga Teacher Training
This past weekend was my first step in a 9 month stretchy, spiritual and transformative journey through Kansas City Yoga Teacher Training.    There are some truly amazing and inspirational women in my “Yoga Trainee Tribe” and I feel so blessed and honored to share this time and space with them.   But I have a […]

Therapy – lets break the stigma down

Therapy – lets break the stigma down
If I go to a therapist, does that mean I’m crazy, weak or a failure?   What will others think? What if I’m seen coming out of that kind of office?   Such concerns are quite natural given our socio-cultural conditioning. Unfortunately, as a result, many people decide not to pursue therapy despite experiencing significant […]

New Years Thoughts + a plan for 2016

New Years Thoughts + a plan for 2016
I used to be really into new years resolutions.   But, I’ve typically found that my “resolutions” convert into some form of a shame inducing, “should” list that turns into a chore.   1. Lose 10 pounds 2. Save $5,000 3. Eat healthier 4. Read more books 5. bla bla bla   No fun!   Want to try something different in […]

1.44 Billion.   No, that’s not the amount Star Wars raked in opening weekend, or the number of cheeseburgers served by McDonalds in a day.   That’s the number of Active Facebook users currently. Along with 300 Million Instagram users, and 284 Million Twitter users. (thanks, Google).   We’re engulfed with it.   At first, […]

I’m a Sensitive Girl… And It’s Amazing!
Since the time I can remember I have been the type of girl who is extremely sensitive.   From emotions.   To other people’s emotions.   To my environment.   Everything from lighting… to noise…   Even my skin and eyes are sensitive.   I used to view this sensitivity as a weakness. I had […]

BREAKING NEWS: Your Thoughts Aren’t True!

BREAKING NEWS: Your Thoughts Aren’t True!
“A thought is harmless unless we believe it. It’s not our thoughts, but the attachment to our thoughts, that causes suffering. Attaching to a thought means believing that it’s true, without inquiring. A belief is a thought we’ve been attaching to, often for years.” – Byron Katie When I was 22 years old, I was stuck […]
